Cuban Ambassador Meets with Cambodian Minister of Environment to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

PHNOM PENH, June 7, 2024 – This morning, at the Ministry of Environment in Phnom Penh, Dr. Eang Sophalleth, Cambodia's Minister of Environment, hosted a warm reception for Ms. Milena Caridad Zaldivar Piedra, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Cambodia. The meeting marked her first official engagement with the Cambodian government since her nomination.

During their discussion, the two officials explored avenues for enhanced cooperation between Cambodia and Cuba, particularly in environmental conservation and climate change initiatives. The meeting underscores a mutual commitment to deepening diplomatic and environmental partnerships.


Ambassador Zaldivar expressed Cuba's interest in sharing its expertise in sustainable development, areas in which it has made significant progress. Meanwhile, Minister Sophalleth briefed the Ambassador on Cambodia's current environmental priorities and the challenges it faces, highlighting potential areas for collaboration.


The meeting also provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss upcoming international environmental conferences and the possibility of co-hosting seminars and workshops that could benefit both nations.


The visit by the Cuban Ambassador is seen as a step towards strengthening the bonds between the two countries, with both sides eager to support one another in achieving their environmental and sustainable development goals.
